Peter Ballantyne Group of Companies (PBGOC) operates as the for-profit business development entity of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation (PBCN) to support long-term economic self-sufficiency for PBCN’s communities and members.

PBGOC has a proven record of accomplishment in business and business development. It’s our view that successful business investment will create wealth and opportunity for PBCN and its members to help make economic self-reliance a reality.

PBGOC is proud to contribute financial resources to support PBCN’s capacity-building activities that facilitate the exercising of inherent Constitutional, Treaty, and Traditional Rights. Our Board and Leadership recognize the concepts and experience that have led to our past successes can also be applied to other areas of management, administration, negotiations and relationship building the PBCN is involved in.

Our Communities

Amisk Lake
Amisk Osakahikan meaning “Beaver Lake”

Amisk Lake is located in northern Saskatchewan, Canada, and a member of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation. The community is situated on the banks of the Sturgeon-Weir River.  Amisk Lake acted as an independent trading post along the canoe route between eastern Canada and Lake Athabasca country. Amisk Lake is the only PBCN community with paved roads. Amisk Lake can be accessed year round from Flin Flon, MB, Creighton, SK and Prince Albert, Sk. The community currently has a population of 820. Amisk Lake contains confectionery, restaurant, food retail, Guiding, Mining, Recreation and Cultural Opportunities, Commercial Fishing Services. Amisk Lake is also home to the DenarePlex-Sports and Recreation Facility.

Deshambault Lake
Kimoosom Pwatinak meaning or named after a Cree Legend

Deschambault Lake is located in northern Saskatchewan, situated on the banks of Deschambault Lake. Deschambault Lake is 90 miles east of Flin Flon, MB, along highway 911. Commercial fishing remains an important foundation of Deschambault Lakes economy. The community has a population of 1,194. Deschambault Lake contains confectionery, restaurant, food retail, recreational and cultural services.

Kinoosao
Kinoosao meaning “Fish”

Kinoosao is a community located in northern Saskatchewan, situated along the eastern banks of Reindeer Lake which borders both Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Kinoosao means “fish” in the local Cree language. Directly, harkening back to the community’s humble beginnings as a fish-filleting plant in 1952. Kinoosao can be reached by gravel road from Lynn Lake, Manitoba. The community contains confectionery, restaurant, food retail and local taxi services.

Pelican Narrows
Opawikoscikcan meaning “the Narrows of Fear”.

Pelican Narrows is a community located in northern Saskatchewan, situated north of the narrows that joins Mirond and Pelican Lakes. Pelican Narrows is Peter Ballantyne’s most populous community with 3,500 members. The community dates back to 1730 and has primarily been used as a center for trade. Pelican Narrows can be reached year round from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Pelican Narrows contains confectionery, restaurant, food retail and local taxi services.

Prince Albert
Kiskaciwan meaning “a fast flowing river or current”

The Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation currently has three urban reserves located in and around the city of Prince Albert. The Chief Joseph Custer Reserve is one urban reserve located within the city of Prince Albert and contains the head offices of many Peter Ballantyne services. The Petro Canada Gas Bar is the other location of PBCN’s urban reserve located along 2nd Ave. W in Prince Albert. The third urban reserve is located 10 minutes west along the outskirts of Prince Albert.

Sandy Bay
Wapaskokimawn meaning “okimaw” which is boss in cree or “non-native agent”.

Sandy Bay is a community located in northern Saskatchewan, Canada, and a member of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation. The community is situated on the banks of the beautiful Churchill River. Sandy Bay developed around the Island Falls Hydroelectric Power Station built in the 1920s. Sandy Bay can be reached year round from Pelican Narrows, Saskatchewan. Sandy Bay currently has a population of 1,233 band members. Sandy Bay contains confectionery, restaurant, food retail and local taxi services. 

Southend
Wahpahtikochiwanohk meaning “the Narrows with a Current”

Southend is a community located in northern Saskatchewan, situated along the southern banks of Reindeer Lake. Southend is accessible by road year round from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Southend began as a post for the North West Company, and has since developed into a vibrant community of 904. Southend contains confectionery, restaurant, food retail and local taxi services.

Nahmehw Sipi meaning “Sturgeon River”

Sturgeon Landing is located in northern Saskatchewan, situated on the eastern banks of Sturgeon-Weir River. The Sturgeon-Weir River was located along the main voyageur route between the Mackenzie River basin and eastern Canada. Sturgeon Landing is located 55 kilometers south east of Flin Flon and is accessible year round. The community has a population of 81. Sturgeon Landing contains hunting and trapping, commercial fishing, guiding, mining, and recreational and cultural services.
